FAQs

Do you do house calls?

Housecalls are reserved for the truly immobile, severely ill or terminal patients. If you genuinely need a house call, please phone us as early in the day as possible so the call can be done during our lunchtime.

If you are not able to come to the surgery you should ring and discuss this with us. A doctor will discuss the problem with you on the telephone. It is much safer to be seen in the surgery where there are extra medical and nursing staff with instant access to full medical and resuscitation equipment allowing for a much more thorough assessment.

What do I do in the event of an emergency?

In the event of an emergency, phone 999 and ask for an ambulance. Then phone us and let us know what the nature of the emergency and we will act accordingly.

If you are bringing an emergency up to our surgery, please phone us in advance so we can have as many of us ready and waiting as needed.

Confidentiality

The doctor-patient relationship is built on trust. Information on you will be held in confidence, in compliance with data protection legislation. Everyone who works in Cedarville Medical Centre is bound by rules of confidentiality, as are the medical students who train with us.

How do I order a repeat prescription?

When ordering repeat prescriptions, please given at least 24 hours’ notice. We have a designated time where once a day we will go through your notes for each prescription to ensure no errors are made. Sometimes you will be given a short term prescription as it may be the case that you need a follow-up blood test first to ensure the correct dosage of medication or to ensure it is still safe to prescribe your medication.

If you are having difficulty remembering to take your tablets, please let us know: the pharmacist can arrange to have your medications dispensed in a daily blister pack.

Lost prescriptions for sleeping tablets, certain painkillers and some other drugs will not be filled earlier than they are due. These are controlled drugs and you need to be careful with them.

How can I get my test results?

It is the patient’s responsibility to phone for his or her results unless you’ve been specifically told to attend for a follow-up visit. Do not presume if you have not heard from the doctor that your test is normal. To obtain your results please phone the Practice Nurse on 068-32188 between 2pm and 3pm daily. If the Nurse is unable to take the call you will be asked to leave your name and phone number so the nurse can contact you with your results.

How do I get a form filled?

If you require the doctor to write a letter or fill in a form this may require an appointment with your GP. Our reception staff will be able to advise you on this. If an appointment is not necessary please allow two working days for completion. There is a standard administrative fee to be paid on completion of your requested completed form or letter from reception.

Some forms involve greater administrative or medico-legal responsibilities and in these cases greater fees may apply.
